UTC will  again be joining over 100 colleges and universities  in using the TechQual+  IT  survey to allow faculty, students and staff the opportunity to assess Information Technology and to identify what  IT services are important  to you, what works  and what needs to be improved.

Last year 449  UTC  faculty , staff and students participated in the first annual UTC  TechQual+  IT survey  and identified several concerns that needed to be addressed.  Your responses to the 2009 survey identified real issues which resulted in specific actions to improve ITD support to UTC.   Some of the major issues identified by the survey and the actions taken to provide better service to the campus are:

•    Issue:   Having a university network that is reliable, available, and performs in an acceptable manner

Actions taken:     UTC expanded Internet from 100Mb connection to 250Mb in 2010      Speed of UTC of  campus LAN upgraded from 100Mb to 1 Gb,   a 10X increase in bandwidth on campus!

•    Issue:  Having technology within classrooms or meeting areas that enhances the presentation of information

Actions taken:   New podiums installed in 17 new rooms   Computers replaced in 120 existing  podiums  and replaced 28 podium projectors

•    Issue:    Having wireless network coverage in all the areas that are important to me as a faculty, student or staff member

Actions taken:   Expanded number of wireless access points from 228 to  342 on the campus   Begin installing wireless service in select housing units with plans to expand in 2011

•    Issue:     Difficulty in accessing wireless network using Bradford

Actions  taken:    Added additional equipment to support campus    New release of software installed to improve service.   Identified project  for vendor to evaluate and re-engineer system to optimize performance

The  2010  survey will be sent out soon to  invite  participation from faculty, staff and students to identify specific concerns with IT support on the campus.   Please participate   in this opportunity to provide feedback that helps  ITD improve service to the campus
