Class Note: Roger Gibbens Named to Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities

Roger Gibbens '91
Roger Gibbens (’91) was named to the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities by Governor Phil Bredesen. Gibbens will serve a three year term beginning in September 2009 and ending in 2012. The goal of the council is to advocate for Tennesseans with disabilities and to work with the governor’s office and the Tennessee legislature on bills that would strengthen the efforts to support disability awareness and advocacy.

Higney To Lead Tennessee Environmental Attorneys

Chattanooga (July 2, 2009) — Chattanooga attorney David Higney (’88) was elected Chairman of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section at the Association’s recent annual convention held in Memphis.
The TBA Environmental Law Section informs its more than 120 attorney members on developments in local, state and national environmental law, regulation and policy, coordinates substantive continuing legal education programs, and publishes an electronic newsletter quarterly as a forum for discussing the latest trends in the industry.
Attorney Higney concentrates his practice in the fields of litigation, environmental law and administrative/regulatory law as a member of the Chattanooga firm Grant Konvalinka & Harrison, PC.
Mr. Higney assists clients with matters such as Brownfield redevelopments, environmental enforcement activities by federal and state regulators, defending and prosecuting claims involving hazardous substances and toxic materials or pollutants, and obtaining regulatory permits for new and expanding facilities. He also represents the Chattanooga Manufacturers Association in opposing utility rate increases sought by privately-owned utilities such as Chattanooga Gas Company and Tennessee American Water Company.
Mr. Higney earned his undergraduate degree at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, cum laude, in 1988 and his law degree in 1991 from the University of Tennessee College of Law. He is a graduate of Leadership Chattanooga (2006) and currently serves as President-elect for the Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association, and he is a member and past-president of the Chattanooga Kappa Sigma Housing Corporation Board of Directors.
He is licensed in Tennessee and Georgia and, since 1991, has practiced continuously with Grant Konvalinka & Harrison, PC, a 24-attorney law firm based in Chattanooga, serving regional and national clients from its offices located at 633 Chestnut Street, 9th Floor – Republic Centre.
Summer Neldner-Scott Honored as Athletic Trainer
July 2nd, 2009Summer Neldner-Scott (’05) was recently named the 2009 High School Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Alabama Athletic Trainer’s Association.
Neldner-Scott, who joined the Trinity Medical Center Sports Medicine Program in 2005 as an athletic trainer, works with the Chelsea High School and middle school athletic programs.
She is a native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She received her master’s at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Mocs Marriage – Lindsey Gosma (’04) Weds Donhauser
July 1st, 2009Lindsey (Gosma) Donhauser (2004) and Timothy Donhauser are happy to announce their marriage on May 23, 2009 on the rooftop of the Hotel Valley Ho, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Katherine Van Deusen (2004) was maid of honor, and Paul Mertz was best man. Lindsey currently teaches at Arizona State University as an instructor for the Department of English, and Timothy works as an architect for Acanthus Architecture. The couple resides in sunny Phoenix, Arizona.
While on campus, Lindsey was involved in the UHON program.
Ezekiel Ette (’84) Pens New Book

Ezekiel Ette has published a new book Annang Wisdom: Tools for Post Modern Living. He is currently a professor of social work at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa Idaho. Dr. Ette is a member of the 1984 UTC class with a degree in secondary education. He holds the M.Div from Emory University in Atlanta and the MSW and Ph.D. degrees from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.
