We have recieved a few questions about fee payment from those students who are attending the Orientation Sessions on the 11th (Transfer) and 12th (Freshman). The University sets a confirmation date for all students who register for classes. This deadline does not directly affect those students who attend these last two sessions because they have not registered for classes yet.

After you register for your classes during the Orientation program, the Bursar’s office will apply the appropriate fees to your MocsNet account. Students who attend the sessions on the 11th and 12th will need to come to the program prepared to:

pay the fees in total;

arrange for a Deferred Payment Plan with the Bursar’s Office; or

accept your Financial Aid award and accept your charges in your MocsNet account.

As always, we will have staff at Orientation who will be able to assist you with these processes. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Orientation office at 423.425.5220. Thank you for choosing UTC and Go Mocs!

We have posted an updated schedule of events for parents and students for the August 12th session. It is a ONE-DAY session. Please check your ACT Sub-Scores in Math and English to see if you need to come to the placement tests.

PLACEMENT TESTS
Students who have an English sub-socre of 19 or above do not have to take the placement test; if you have a score higher than 28, you can take the test to see if you place into our second semester English course. Students with a Math sub-score of below 24 need to take the Math placement test. Any student can take the Math test if they would like to improve their placement. We will take the higher of the placements (your ACT or your placement test score). You can always contact the Orientation office for more information.

MOVE-IN
If you are attending the August 12th Freshman Orientation Session, you will be allowed to move in to your Fall Housing assignment from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11th. You should have received an email from the Housing and Residence Life Office about where to go to check in.

If you are not attending the August 12th session and are a new freshman, you will be able to move into your housing complex on Thursday, August 14th 13th. Please contact the Housing and Residence Life office for more details.

If you have not already made arrangements with Housing and Residence Life for the fall semester, we are no longer accepting applications. If you have completed your application and are unsure of your placement, please contact the Housing and Residence Life office at 423.425.4304.

CLASS AVAILABILITY
We have received a lot of questions about the availability of classes. While it is true that this will be the largest freshman class to ever enter UTC, we are dedicated to making sure our students get full-time schedules that allow them to make progress toward their degree.

UTC is very interested in the success of students, particularly freshmen, who are transitioning from high school to college. To assist you in your transition, we offer three different experiences; you may participate in all three if you wish. Each of the classes in our First Year Studies program offers unique experiences to help you adjust to UTC and begin your academic journey successfully.

OTHER QUESTIONS
As always, we have answers to several frequently asked questions on our website. You can always contact the Orientation office at 423.425.5220 or leave a comment here or on our registration site. We will do our best to get to your questions/concerns as soon as is possible.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING UTC AND GO MOCS!!

The Orientation Staff at UTC is very excited to meet you and share what it means to be a MOC! Regardless of where you are from, after your Orientation session, you will be a well-prepared Freshman at one of the greatest metropolitan universities in the South!

Orientation is a great experience to immerse yourself in our campus community. Remember to take full advantage of this opportunity, bring a positive attitudes, and leave any “I’m too cool for this” thoughts at home!

Both of us are at some part of journey at UTC, Lindsay, a recent graduate in Early Childhood Education and former captain of the Sugar Mocs Dance Team from Bartlett, TN, and Andrew, a junior Health Sciences major/Business minor and the Student Body Vice President from Manchester, TN. We have both been involved with Orientation and in other leadership positions on campus. Our main advice is to get involved in our numerous campus activities and go to class every day! We have a true love for UTC and know you will too!

Below we have listed some common questions about Freshmen Orientation sessions! Also, we encourage students to explore the UTC website, especially the Orientation Blog, MocSquawk, for any updates.
Again, congratulations on your upcoming journey at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga! We look forward to seeing you this summer!
GO MOCS!

WHAT WILL I LEARN AT ORIENTATION?
Our administrators and student Orientation Leaders (OL’s) are beyond excited to teach you about:

Student life

Campus resources

Getting involved

Surviving your first year

Dining services

Parking

Financial aid

Registration

Tuition and fees

AND SO MUCH MORE!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO ORIENTATION

Sleeping bag or bed linens for a full bed

Paper and pencil

Checkbook/money to get a head start on paying fees

Change of clothes for the next day

Camera

Pillow

Toiletries

Everything you need to get ready in the morning

Cell phone charger

Alarm Clock

Ideas of what you want to get involved with!

UTCID / Secure ID / passwords – Bring your Acceptance Letter

Umbrella – It might rain … check the Chattanooga Forecast

Lots of questions

A GREAT ATTITUDE!

HOW MUCH OF ORIENTATION AM I WITH MY PARENTS?

Students and parents are together during the opening session and the student life sessions; however, you will be separated during the advisement and registration period. Also, during the small group sessions, students will be with their student Orientation Leaders while parents will be with our Student Development staff.

WHY DO WE LOVE UTC?

Beautiful campus

Walking distance to downtown and the riverfront

A distinctive campus community that is personal, but has the resources of a large university

The best campus housing in the South

Dedicated academic programs with hands-on learning that prepare students for the finest careers in their field

Engaged administrators that take time to know students and in return, better serve us

Always something going on: 150 student organizations, Association of Campus Entertainment Events (like Casino Night!), club sports, campus recreation/outdoors trips (like skydiving and rafting!), the Student Government Association/Freshman Senate, Mocs Athletics Events (SOCON Champions of 2009!), Greek Life, Campus Ministries, and SO MUCH MORE!

Our university believes without a doubt that “WE SHALL ACHIEVE” and has instilled this as our campus motto.
