Judge forbids Fisk from selling famous art work

The Association of Art Museum Directors has praised a decision by a Nashville judge that forbids Fisk University from selling a 50 percent share of its art collection donated by the late painter Georgia O’Keeffe.
The historically black university argued that its precarious financial state prevents it from maintaining and displaying the collection.
Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle ruled that selling a 50 percent stake in the collection to the Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Ark., would violate the conditions of the gift to the school.
Lyle ordered the state attorney general to find a way to keep the collection in Nashville within 20 days.
