This Fall 2014 semester, UTC Fitness is fighting the “Freshman Fifteen!”

To start the semester off, anyone interested in staying fit should come to the annual ARC Fitness Launch Party, held in the ARC Basketball Courts Monday, August 25, at 6 P.M.  Here, Campus Recreation’s fitness programs will be demonstrated, including Zumba, Boot Camp, Kickboxing and P90X.  Additionally, there will be fitness prize giveaways, refreshments and great energy!

Second, ARC Personal training is back this Fall!  Learn to build your own personally-fit workouts and have one of our 5 ACSM-certified personal trainers motivate you each session.  See here for pricing and other details.

Third, ARC Fitness will offer free 30-minute fitness orientations.  Here, you can learn how to use the equipment to achieve your workout goals as efficiently and safely as possible.

UTC Outdoors Trips

UTC Outdoors is sponsoring a few trips in July: Batcave Canoeing at Nickajack Lake, beginner-level kayaking on the Hiwassee and stand-up paddleboarding every Wednesday night this month and next (except for July 2).  All trips are free with a refundable $20 check deposit that will be returned the day of the event.  ARC members must sign up in the UTC Outdoors office, located on the bottom floor of the ARC, Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to reserve their place and be eligible to go.

The Hiwassee Whitewater Kayaking trip is scheduled for July 19, 10 a.m. to around 7 p.m.  The trip is beginner-level, covering 5 miles of Class 2 whitewater.  There is a prerequisite class required to go on this trip that meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 12-1:30 p.m.  One of these is held the Tuesday before the trip (July 15).

Stand-up paddle (SUP) boarding, as previously mentioned, is held every Wednesday night in June and July with the exception of July 2 due to Campus Recreation being closed at this time.  The trip takes place on the Tennessee River, starting from the UTC Rowing Center near Scrappy Field.  Just like any other trip, one must sign up in the Outdoors department ahead of time.
