Chancellor’s Update
This has been an exciting few weeks full of celebrations and new beginnings.
On Monday, September 29th I traveled to Washington, DC to accept the 2014 New York Life Higher Education Civic Engagement award on behalf of our campus. UTC was one of 126 nominees and 1 of 5 winners including California State University, Fullerton; Georgia College and State University; Hampshire College and Rice University. This award recognizes our sustained commitment to civic engagement and community partnerships and would not have been achievable without the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff and students.
This past weekend marked a new tradition with the reinvigoration of the C Club, an alumni group specifically for athletics. Two hundred former athletes and friends traveled to the UTC campus for a weekend of renewed friendships. The success of this first weekend shows the connection that our alumni have to our beautiful campus.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and our friends will participate in Homecoming festivities this week. This is a week for us all to show our Mocs pride. I encourage all of you to take a break from work or study to partake in our some of the Homecoming activities. We hope everyone will join us this Saturday for the Homecoming game against Virginia Military Institute at 4pm in Finley Stadium. Go Mocs!
The Chancellor’s Roundtable held its first meeting of the year in the new library on Wednesday, September 30th. This marked a milestone for us – the first official event in the new library! We will be moving into the new building beginning in mid-December and should be open for business in early January 2015.
Lastly, work on the new Strategic Plan is continuing. Several events were held in September to solicit feedback from faculty, staff and students. This month and next month the process continues with alumni group meetings in Hamilton County, Atlanta, Knoxville and Nashville.
