At “Down with the Dean,” students got the rare chance to watch a dean get wet in a dunk tank. Students gathered around for free food and free t-shirts, then lined up for a chance to take their shots at Dr. Robert Dooley, the Dean of the College of Business.
“I’m glad to get into the tank to promote the College of Business,” says Dooley, “We wanted to do something fun to welcome back the business students and all the students of UTC. And we wanted to expose them to what all the College of Business has to offer.”
The College of Business offered free t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan, “Join us now, or work for us later.”
New and returning students learned that the College of Business’ MBA program will be available online beginning January 2014. Applications for the program are currently being accepted.
“The College of Business has long sought to meet the evolving needs of students and the business community through new program development, and the introduction of our Professional MBA is the most recent example of that,” says Dooley.
The fully online program will give students value, flexibility, and the opportunity to apply their knowledge immediately to workplace challenges. Graduates will have gained a thorough understanding of marketing, accounting, finance, and business law as well as practical skills in organizational, operational, financial, informational, and personnel management. The College of Business also has new resources, opportunities, and events.
“The college of business is growing and we are always looking for new ways to support students. We’ve added several academic advisors to help students. Other services offered will be resume help, help finding internships, and career advisement as they get ready to go into the world. That area is going to continue to grow and we’re looking to make the space more user-friendly. So I think students will see an enhanced focus, not just on advising, but on career placement and finding internships and things. And it’s all housed right here in Fletcher,” says Katrina Craven, Director of Business Marketing and Communications in the College of Business.
Down with the Dean provided an excellent opportunity for students to explore these and other opportunities within the College of Business. It was a successful event that they hope to be able to recreate next year.
“We estimate we saw between 200-250 students who participated in the event. They certainly enjoyed the dunk tank. Dean Dooley was really good natured about it and I think he really enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the students. We felt like this was a great success and we’d like to see this become a yearly thing at the beginning of each academic year,” says Craven.
