The Power C Tour Chattanooga event followed October visits to Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville. The four tour stops attracted 1,033 total students, parents and guests. Of the 446 students who attended, more than 30% (138) were admitted to UTC in a “Moc Minute,” an initiative allowing qualified high school seniors to apply for free to the University at the event.
Dr. Trey Straussberger named director of UTC Office of National Scholarships
Dr. John “Trey” Straussberger has been selected as director of the Office of National Scholarships at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Paleo skills workshop takes participants back in time
About 70 people stepped tens of thousands of years into the past, learning to hunt with darts chunked by spears, make tools from stone and join a badminton-like game played by an ancient Peruvian civilization. Taking place Nov. 4 on Chamberlain Field, the fifth annual Paleo Skills Workshop was organized by Assistant Professor Brooke Persons, director of the Jeffrey L. Brown Institute of Archaeology at UTC.

UTC crowned top nursing school in Tennessee Student Choice Award voting
Nurse.org, an online source supporting and empowering nurses to better their careers, lives and profession by publishing trusted educational resources, announced the UTC nursing school as the top vote-getter in the Tennessee Student Choice Award competition—as voted by students and alumni.
School of Nursing programs ranked in Top 20 nationwide
EduMed.org, a national website that focuses on programs across more than 60 medical and health fields, ranked the UTC Nurse Practitioner and the BSN-to-DNP Bridge programs at No. 19 and the Nurse Practitioner program at No. 16 as one of the country’s most affordable.
UTC criminal justice students to host “Pouring for Purpose” community event
Students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Criminal Justice program and University High students will soon collaborate for a pour-painting project and community gallery event. On Friday, Nov. 10, the college and high school students will come together to launch “Pouring for Purpose: Building Pathways to Ethics and Equity,” a gallery and partner-building event taking place from 1-3 p.m. at the UTC Challenger Center.
University Health Services sports new look
Thanks to a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Health, University Health Services has updated its clinic.
Duo Esplanade to hold inaugural UTC concert
Duo Esplanade, comprised of Dr. Ayça Çetin on flute and Dr. Katsuya Yuasa on clarinet, will perform at the Cadek Recital Hall on the UTC campus on Friday, Nov. 10. The free concert, open to the public, will take place at 7:30 p.m.—and seating is limited.
UTC Symphony Orchestra, CCA String Orchestra to perform public concert on Nov. 12
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and the Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts String Orchestra will present a free public concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, in the UTC Fine Arts Center’s Roland Hayes Concert Hall.
