University bids farewell to Lupton Library with special collections exhibit

As the University community awaits the opening of the new UTC library, Steve Cox, Team Lead of UTC Special Collections and University Archives, has some rumors to clear up about Lupton Library. An exhibit examining these rumors and showcasing the history of libraries at UTC is on display in UTC Special Collections on the second floor of the Lupton Library, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lupton Library exhibit: an assassination and the beginning of WWI

On June 28, 1914, the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, an action that lit the fuse for the beginning of World War I. To mark this historic event, the Lupton Library has an exhibit on display until July 15th. Visitors are welcome to view it during the library’s regular hours. The exhibit was arranged at the suggestion of Dr. Aaron Shaheen, UC Foundation Associate Professor of English.

MOOC technology pilot program earns continued state investment

As an experienced online lecturer at UT Chattanooga and fan of technology, Tiffany Mitchell jumped at the chance to convert her online English rhetoric and composition course to Coursera, one of two national innovators in massive open online courses (MOOCs), being used in a pilot program throughout the University of Tennessee.

Once I Too Had Wings: The Journals of Emma Bell Miles, 1908-1918

Steven Cox began to appreciate the value of the journals of Emma Bell Miles shortly after he joined the UTC Library in 2001. One year before, the work of this “gifted writer, poet, naturalist, and artist with a keen perspective on Appalachian life and culture” had been donated to UTC, and researchers began to ask if they could have a look.

University hosts Sisters of the Academy Institute

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Office of Equity and Diversity partnered with Sisters of the Academy Institute (SOTA) to host a writing retreat for UTC faculty. At this retreat, participants had access to coaches and facilitators who provide advice and feedback on dissertations, manuscripts, reports or book chapters.
