UTC graduate “bottles emotions” for innovative art project

Fill in the blank: Love is ______. Did the word “blind” come to mind? What about “patient?” Or “war?” For recent UTC graduate Taylor Kinser, love is glitter. And marshmallows. With a little pink paint, sequins, and soap suds too. Kinser’s conceptual art project, “Bottled Emotions,” explores the idea of creating and packaging an intangible product—our emotions.

Portrait unveiling of former dean of Lupton Library

A portrait of former Dean of the Lupton Library Dr. Joseph Jackson was recently unveiled on campus.  Artist and UTC nursing alumna Elizabeth Adams was commissioned to paint Jackson’s portrait, which is currently on display in the T. Cartter and Margaret Rawlings Lupton Memorial Library.

Volkswagen selects UTC interns, featured in video

A UTC alumna and two current UTC student were selected for the Volkswagen Distinguished Scholars Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the three can now be seen in a new video. Jennifer Lewis, Joshua Solomon and Carolyn Hoagland were among 11 students selected by Volkswagen for the program, which began last summer. Lewis, a May 2010 chemical engineering graduate, will continue her internship until the end of

New encyclopedia on religion has UTC connections

A new contemporary, multidisciplinary Encyclopedia of Religion in America has been edited by UTC Professor Emeritus Dr. Charles Lippy and includes nearly a dozen contributors with UTC connections.

Alumnus, former US Marine begins medical school

During former US Marine Aaron Evans’ second tour of duty in Iraq he was part of the humanitarian effort to help rebuild the city of Rutbah, Iraq.  He helped provide security and logistical assistance for people living in “really bad conditions,” and he became frustrated when civilians needed medical help.   Their one hospital was being rebuilt and only one small clinic remained.
