Self-assembling Carbon Nanotubes: A Story that Tells Itself

Researchers at UTC, Rice and Texas A&M have discovered that the strong force field emitted by a Tesla coil can guide tiny tubes of carbon to self-assemble into wire-like structures up to 15 cm long.

Chemistry student selected for internship, MIT program

JasLynn Murphy aspires to become a research chemist, perhaps with the National Institutes of Health or the Department of Defense or the Environmental Protection Agency. Her undergraduate research with Dr. Stefanie Whitson at UTC prepared her for a summer internship in Washington, D.C., at the National Science Foundation – Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at Georgetown University. She’s also been selected to attend a program at MIT, DOW-MIT ACCESS, designed “to introduce students to the exciting possibilities of graduate-level education in chemical engineering, materials science, and chemistry.”

Alumnus wins prestigious international chemistry award

UTC alumnus Bradley McKeown had no idea a surprise was waiting in his campus mailbox at the University of Virginia where he’s studying for a doctorate in Chemistry. He received a letter informing him he had won The International Precious Metals Institute’s (IPMI) Bright Futures Award.

Chemistry Club shares learning experience at Brown Academy

The UTC Chemistry Club showed students from Brown Academy just how fun science can be thanks to a recent grant from the American Chemical Society-Community Interaction Grant (ACS-CIG).
