UTC alumnus Bradley McKeown had no idea a surprise was waiting in his campus mailbox at the University of Virginia where he’s studying for a doctorate in Chemistry. He received a letter informing him he had won The International Precious Metals Institute’s (IPMI) Bright Futures Award.
The UTC Chemistry Club showed students from Brown Academy just how fun science can be thanks to a recent grant from the American Chemical Society-Community Interaction Grant (ACS-CIG).
Eric Snider, senior chemical engineering student, placed first overall at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Southern Regional Conference in the research paper competition. As a result, he will be one of nine students nationwide to compete in the AIChE national competition in October in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Pam Ross, M.D., UTC alumna and Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Virginia Health System, recently attended a breakfast with UTC chemistry majors to discuss the medical school application process and respond to questions about emergency medicine.
Studies into chemicals in electronic cigarettes, experiments on bacteria cells and investigation of the structure of poisonous plants were just a few of the research projects presented during the Department of Chemistry’s Undergraduate Research Poster session.
