Music professor receives award; honored with concert

Composer-arranger and conductor Roland Carter, the Ruth S. Holmerg UC Foundation Professor of Music at UTC, has earned an award for his contributions and accomplishments in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUS) and minorities and rising leaders in the arts.  He is also being honored Friday, February 3, by the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin.

Music Department presents “Treemonisha”

The 125th anniversary of UTC continues with a special musical presentation. The UTC Music Department in cooperation with the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African American Song will present two evening performances of Scott Joplin’s opera Treemonisha on January 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee on January 29 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission, $17 seniors, and $14 for students. Music Department offers wide range of fall concerts

Grammy-winning drummer to perform on campus

Grammy Award winning drummer and UTC alumnus, Forrest Robinson, will perform on Monday, October 3 at 7 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall of the UTC Fine Arts Center.  Forrest Robinson, a former music major at UTC, will present a drum clinic and performance with the UTC Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Monte Coulter. This program is free and open to the public.

Local students excel at UTC piano arts competition

Six students from the greater Chattanooga Area who recently took top honors in the UTC Music Department Piano Arts Competition will perform in a recital at the UTC Cadek Recital Hall on Sunday, June 12 at 3 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
