Due to ongoing concerns over the spread of COVID-19, UTC Housing is asking residents to remove all their belongings and check out of their assigned space in campus housing between March 18th and March 31st.
Residence halls will close on Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 at 5 pm until further notice.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga recognizes the importance of international students on campus. These students benefit UTC and the Chattanooga community through contributions of academic scholarship, cultural diversity, and more.
In recent years, the Center for Global Education has positioned UTC to become a regional leader in international education. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the closure of global testing centers for the TOEFL and IELTS, the examinations by which prospective international students typically prove their English language proficiency.
With this and other factors in mind, UTC will begin accepting the fully online Duolingo English Test for international admissions during this time. In doing so, UTC joins hundreds of other universities — including Middle Tennessee State University, UNC Wilmington, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham — that already accept this test.
Prospective students applying for fall 2020 may now demonstrate English proficiency through this test. Undergraduate applicants must score at least 85/160, and graduate applicants must score at least 100/160. Applicants to graduate programs already accepting applications for Spring 2021 may also submit Duolingo English Test scores at this time.
By accepting the Duolingo English Test in lieu of TOEFL or IELTS, UTC will facilitate continued admission of highly qualified international students and support for the academic communities they benefit while maintaining rigor in UTC admissions.
