The research was done by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utc.edu\/gary-w-rollins-college-of-business\/crer\/people#HowardJWallDirectorandChiefEconomist\">CRER director and chief economist Howard Wall<\/a>, who was interviewed for the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;House prices rose about the same or the median house price, then the affordability problem, at least today, is not as big a problem on that front locally than it is nationally,&#8221; Wall says.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;The mortgage rates are about double what they were in 2019, 2020, and that&#8217;s the biggest problem with housing affordability, is paying for the mortgage, not the house price relative to, you know, people&#8217;s income.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newschannel9.com\/news\/local\/utc-report-home-prices-still-rising-in-chattanooga-but-faster-income-growth-is-helping-realtors-real-estate-realty-equity-interest-rates-home-ownership-buying-a-house\">Watch the whole story here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newschannel9 in Chattanooga reported on the latest white paper from the Center for Regional Economics on trends in housing affordability.
