CECS Newsletter, Volume 7, No. 3, Fall 2020
Greetings from the beautiful campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga!
After a busy summer, it is hard to believe that we are over a quarter of the way through the Fall semester. I’m happy to share that, because of the hard work of our faculty, staff, and students, the plan we put in place to bring students back to campus is working well – we are staying safe and students are achieving. This edition of eNews features plenty of reasons to be proud to be a Moc.
Students and faculty developed a software solution to allow EPB to process and evaluate the data from its efficient Smart Grid. You will also read about a traffic pattern study being conducted by the Center for Urban Informatics and Progress (CUIP). The information being examined falls under the overall mission of CUIP, which heads the Smart Cities project in Chattanooga, whose goal is improving quality of life in the area. At a national level, UTC was selected for a new partnership with the Missile Defense Agency which will help students pursuing careers in microelectronics.
You will also find stories about faculty and student achievement, including four faculty being promoted or receiving tenure and mechanical engineering students placing in the top 3 at an AIAA conference in the spring. Finally, the college launched a new YouTube channel complete with virtual tours, industry career presentations and student testimonies. I hope you will subscribe and share the channel with a future Moc. Take care and be safe – and Go Mocs!
