Lecture: The Rising Tide of Hate in America

Dr. Heidi Beirich, Intelligence Project Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), will be a guest speaker at UTC on “The Rising Tide of Hate in America” on Wednesday, March 27, 6 p.m. at the UTC University Center Auditorium. Currently, there are over 1,000 known hate groups operating in the US, including neo-Nazis, Klansmen, white nationalists, neo-Confederates, racist skinheads, black separatists, border vigilantes, Patriot groups, and others. Lady Mocs to face off against Nebraska in NCAA Tournament

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team will take on No. 6 seed Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Mocs are a No. 11 seed and will head to College Station, Texas. Tipoff is set for Saturday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. (E.D.T.) at the Reed Arena on the campus of Texas A&M.  The game will also broadcast live online on ESPN3. Read more here.

Humanities lecture: Violence and Sentiment in Human History

“Violence and Sentiment in Human History: Trojans, Greeks, Stormtroopers, and Mafiosi” is the title of the 2013 UTC Lecture in the Humanities to be delivered by Kenneth R. Jones on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. in Grote Hall, Room 129.   Admission is free and this event is open to the public.

Alternative Spring Break takes students to Crabtree Farms

Two dozen students brought their helping hands and strong backs to Crabtree Farms where they volunteered March 12-14 during UTC’s Third Annual Alternative Spring Break.
