WUTC Christmas Special

Join WUTC on Christmas day as they offer their annual holiday broadcast. Here is the schedule for the Christmas Special.

NPR’s  Morning Edition, 6 AM – 10 AM

Messiah With The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, 10 AM – 12 NOON

Handel’s much adored oratorio, Messiah, returns to Heinz Hall led by Music Director Manfred Honeck and featuring a cast of guest vocalists and the Mendelssohn Choir Of Pittsburgh. This work is a religious story of hope,  inspiration and timeless expression.

Fresh Air With Terry Gross, 12 NOON – 1 PM

Living On Earth: Hope For The Holidays, 1 PM  – 2 PM

This year’s “Living On Earth” holiday show presents tales from Celtic traditions, an African-American parable, and other stories all centered on the theme of hope.  Two characters that listeners will meet in this program include a trickster slave who outwits his master, and a boy who discovers that he’s descended from an enemy tribe.

Christmas Jazz With WUTC’s Ken Dryden, 2 PM – 4 PM

NPR’s All Things Considered, 4 PM – 8 PM

Jazz Piano Christmas XXVI, 8 PM – 9 PM

NPR  music brings you another great concert from Kennedy Center.  Pianists Kenny Barron, Fred Hersch, and Carmen Staaf perform their favorite holiday songs in a program hosted by Felix Contreras.

An Afro-Blue Christmas, 9 PM – 10 PM

Howard University’s premiere vocal ensemble and special guest pianist Cyrus Chestnut will present a very special holiday concert.  The a-cappela group performs a variety of holiday songs including African-American spirituals,  jazz and pop tunes, and classical compositions.  Hosted by Michele Norris.
