Details: Cyber Security Professional, Shayne Champion, discusses the education, career path and skills one practitioner has undertaken in their path from the early 1990s; and the public flourishing of the internet to the modern digital battlefield we all work, study and live within.

What: Take Five Reading Series: Dr. Michelle White presents on Dissolution
Details: The Department of English and the George C. Connor Professorship of American Literature are pleased to showcase five different UTC faculty members who will offer a lecture on a book of his or her choosing. Dr. Michelle White presents on C. J. Sansom’s Dissolution, a gripping murder mystery set during the confiscation and dissolution of the monasteries by King Henry VIII in the early days of the English Reformation.

What: The Diane Marek Visiting Artists Series: Michi Meko’s KAZUKO Exhibition
Details: Michi Meko’s multidisciplinary approach combines common materials with an iconography of humble objects to create stunning visual metaphors of African-American heritage and experience building upon themes of resilience and purpose, remembrance and spirituality.

What: MLK: A Personal Portrait Film and Lecture with George Silano
Details: As the only director to be invited into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s home, George Silano recorded King’s most private thoughts and premonitions. Join Silano for a presentation and discussion of the film that has been rediscovered after being buried in the archives for forty years. This event is part of the Black History Month events taking place on campus.

What: The Legacy Show
Details: A celebration of African-American artists through music, poetry and visual images is coming to UTC. Violinist Tami Lee Hughes conceived, created and performs the innovative program, featuring African-American composers and arrangers spanning decades.

What: Injustice in the Prison Industrial Complex: The Criminalization of Ramona Brant
Details: Ramona Brant was granted clemency by President Barack Obama after serving 21 years in prison. Brant will share her story, speak to minimum sentencing policies, as well as injustices within the prison system. Brant’s story is one of perseverance, strength and hope. This event is part of the Black History Month events taking place on campus.

What: EnVaGe: Celebrating Diveristy
Details: The Ensemble of Variable Geometry (EnVaGe) offers a listening experience that’s different than going to an orchestral concert or an opera. The group enhances their musical experience with additions of video, dancers or lighting to bring the audience closer to the musicians and the music itself.

What: UTC Theatre Co. presents Elemeno Pea
Details: Molly Smith Metzler’s Elemeno Pea is a story of two sisters enjoying the lavish beach estate owned by the youngest sister’s boss. The comedy explores themes of ambition, regret and how choices can alter a person beyond recognition. This show does contain adult language and content.

What: Take Five Reading Series: Dr. Aaron Shaheen presents on The Scarlett Letter
Details: The Department of English and the George C. Connor Professorship of American Literature are pleased to showcase five different UTC faculty members who will offer a lecture on a book of his or her choosing. Dr. Aaron Shaheen presents on The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic tale of a Puritan woman’s determination to persevere in the face of not only intense societal scrutiny, but also the fear of damnation.
