Honors students from a Florida college now will be able to transfer directly to the UTC Honors College and not pay out-of-state tuition.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, an agreement was signed between UTC Honors College and Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, guaranteeing that honors students from the Florida school can come immediately to UTC once they finish their associate’s degree, says Linda Frost, dean of the UTC Honors College.

“If they’re doing honors there, they can do honors here. It’s a straight line,” she says.

With the agreement, Hillsborough students know “there’s an open door for them, and a lot of students are going to be more likely to come to UTC,” she says.

The Honors College already has similar agreements with Chattanooga State Community College, Cleveland State Community College and Motlow State Community College in Tullahoma, Tenn.

The agreement with Hillsborough is effective immediately.
