Chattanooga sets the pace for connected mobility and enhanced safety with $2M USDOT SMART grant
Pedestrian safety in Chattanooga is set to advance significantly thanks to a $2 million Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Earlier this month, officials from the City of Chattanooga and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga were notified that they are among the 34 recipients of a SMART “Planning and Prototyping Grant” from a pool of 321 applicants nationwide.

VW Drive Your Career Day shows UTC students ‘what a career at Volkswagen means’
On Thursday, Feb. 22, UTC hosted its first VW Drive Your Career Day, an event for students who registered to explore internship and career opportunities while networking with VW personnel. VW staff members talked with students about positions in numerous disciplines, including innovation, finance, engineering, computer science, business and human resources. In addition, an ID.4 and the new VW bus were parked next to the silver Power C adjacent to the University Center.

Dr. Ahad Nasab named interim dean of the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science
Dr. Ahad Nasab has been appointed interim dean of the UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science. Nasab has been head of the Department of Engineering Management and Technology and Burkett Miller Chair of Excellence since coming to UTC in 2018.
Back on campus: Walker Apartments renovations superintendent returns to his UTC freshman roots
A former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student has come full circle, as he now oversees renovations and updates to the on-campus housing where he once lived. Slade McGuire, a 2019 UTC construction management graduate, is currently the site superintendent of the Walker Apartments renovations. He is overseeing work that even includes the student apartment McGuire lived in as a UTC freshman.
Decathlon Top 10: Interior Architecture and Engineering students design cost efficient, comfortable home
An eight-member team of students from the Department of Interior Architecture and Design and the College of Engineering and Computer Science is one of 10 finalists in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2023 Solar Decathlon Design Challenge to design a house to be energy- and cost-efficient while also a comfortable living space.
