Professor chairs presidential committee on health and fitness

In an effort to help Americans improve their physical activity and nutrition habits, President Barack Obama initiated The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition (PCFSN). To assist with the task of promoting good health and fitness, Dr. Gregory Heath, UTC Guerry Professor of Health and Human Performance and Assistant Provost for Research and Engagement, has been named chair of the Science Board for the Council.

Students help document jumping jacks at Brown Academy

First Lady Michelle Obama inspired students at Brown International Academy to do a lot of jumping jacks on October 12th.  A group of UTC students helped document this special effort for the Let’s Move! Campaign.

Students to participate in free children’s sports gear fittings

As fall football season fast approaches, keeping children safe on the field is a top priority for many parents. Thanks to students in the UTC Department of Health and Human Performance, parents can breathe a little easier during games. Students are volunteering to outfit children in properly fitted sports gear.

Professor tests temperature-monitoring equipment on Mocs athletes

Though temperatures in Chattanooga are hitting the upper 90s this summer, the Mocs football team continues to prepare for the fall season with voluntary outdoor practices. In an effort to keep the players safe in the extreme heat, the UTC Department of Health and Human Performance is testing a variety of ways to monitor their core body temperature.
