With spring training baseball in full swing, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Library’s Special Collections has published a new digital collection documenting the early history of the Chattanooga Lookouts minor league baseball team. The collection, titled “Sandy Sandlin Chattanooga Lookouts Photographs,” contains photographs, memorabilia, papers, newspaper clippings and other materials documenting the Lookouts from 1912 to 1987—with the bulk dating from the 1930s to the 1960s.
UTC Special Collections receives grant to digitize historic Woman’s Christian Temperance Union records
UTC Library’s Special Collections has been awarded a $3,679 Tennessee Historical Records Advisory Board programming regrant through funding made available by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The grant funds will support an essential project to digitize, describe and publish online the records of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) of Chattanooga.
UTC mascot history exhibition gets Scrappy flyby
During “I Love UTC Week” from April 1-5, campus icon Scrappy flew by Special Collections and the display cases in the UTC Library’s Roth Grand Reading Room that Special Collections curates. The current exhibition, titled “‘Crowd-Energizing Mission’: A UTC Mascot Retrospective,” includes details and trivia sure to interest any Moc, and Scrappy was no exception. University Archivist Noah Lasley documented the event.
UTC Library Special Collections adds Lookout Mountain conservation photographs
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga recently debuted the Lookout Mountain Civilian Conservation Corps photographs collection as a part of its Chattanooga History Collections archive. It includes 25 photographs of the environment and workers spanning between 1933 and 1939.
