Thanks to a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Health, University Health Services has updated its clinic.<\/p>\n

University Health Services, located in Maclellan Gym Room 205 on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus, received the grant for the project titled \u201cEpidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n

Principal investigators in landing the funding were Dr. Chris Smith, director of the UTC School of Nursing; Dr. Yasmine Key, director of University Health Services; and Laure Pou, assistant vice chancellor of Human Resources.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe grant asked applicants to focus on ways in which UTC planned to improve existing facilities in regard to testing and\/or promotion of health behaviors related to infection prevention,\u201d Smith said. \u201cTo that end, the waiting room furniture has been replaced with chairs which have antimicrobial coverings, the exam rooms have been updated and have non-porous countertops, touchless faucets, soap dispensers and paper towel holders and new cabinets.<\/p>\n

\u201cAir filtration units for each area will be arriving soon and testing for COVID-19, flu and RSV continues at no cost to anyone in our University community.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the grant, to limit the spread of all infectious diseases, UHS Infectious Disease Nurse Practitioner Jordan Jacobs has had sexually transmitted infection testing events\u2014which are free to any UTC student. To date, two testing events have been held.<\/p>\n

The grant will support adding large screen monitors in the Facilities Planning and Management administration areas to improve communication for non-computer users, such as custodial and ground staff. Space redesign for essential services (power plant, police dispatch) will also be funded by the grant.<\/p>\n
