The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has selected Christopher Brown from the School of Education and Andre Yates from Housing and Residence Life as the Moc\u2019s Golden Feather Award recipients for September 2025.<\/p>\n

The Moc\u2019s Golden Feather Award<\/strong><\/a>, launched earlier this year by the Office of Human Resources,\u00a0recognizes staff members who provide outstanding service and contributions to make UTC a great place to work and learn. Each recipient is nominated by colleagues, students and campus partners for going above and beyond in their roles.<\/p>\n

Christopher Brown: Building partnerships<\/h4>\n

Christopher Brown, who coordinates student teaching placements in the School of Education, was recognized by 21 colleagues, community members and alums for his leadership in building a statewide network of strong, nurturing partnerships. Under his guidance, the number of partner districts has grown, and he has developed professional development pathways that empower mentor teachers to become certified co-teachers.<\/p>\n

His forward-thinking approach includes seeking grants and integrating simulation technology to prepare teacher candidates for real-world challenges.<\/p>\n

Former students credit his support for their success, with one writing, \u201cWithout his guidance, I may not have finished my degree.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andre Yates: Grounds leadership and support<\/h4>\n

Andre Yates, who leads the grounds team in Housing and Residence Life, was nominated by Housing Facilities Director Todd Cosgrove for his tireless efforts in keeping the campus running smoothly. His work extends well beyond maintaining lawns and flower beds to include summer operations, move-in preparations and support for major campus events.<\/p>\n

From moving heavy equipment to ensuring freshly laid sod was ready for incoming students for Operation Move In, Yates is known for his can-do spirit and reliability.<\/p>\n

As Cosgrove noted in his nomination letter, \u201cAndre is a great example of a selfless worker that does anything he is asked to help everyone in our department and others.\u201d<\/p>\n

About the award<\/h4>\n

The Moc\u2019s Golden Feather Award highlights how impactful Mocs can be on the lives of those they serve when they fly together.<\/p>\n

Each award recipient receives a $1,000 monetary award, a $100 credit to the University Bookstore, eight hours of leave time, and recognition at an upcoming UTC athletic event with additional tickets for friends and family. Two staff members will be selected and announced every other month.<\/p>\n
