Every semester, students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga purchase textbooks and course materials for their classes. Beginning this fall, they will have a new option designed to simplify the process and help reduce costs.<\/p>\n

Starting Monday, July 27, the MocsBooks Total Access Program<\/strong><\/a> will offer UTC undergraduate students a simpler, potentially more budget-friendly option for buying their textbooks and materials.<\/p>\n

Students will be automatically enrolled in the program and will receive an email 30 days before the start of the semester. The email will include the courses they are enrolled in, what the program covers and an estimate of how much they could save each semester.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents are charged a flat rate of $22 per credit hour, which is automatically billed to their student account,\u201d explained Mocs Bookstore<\/strong><\/a> General Manager Chelleigh Holland. \u201cIt covers all of the required digital and physical materials, and they automatically receive their digital materials in Canvas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re a student and you take a three-credit-hour course, that\u2019s $66 for a book that costs $325. You\u2019re only paying the $66 and you get all that comes with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the program offers significant savings for many students, some may prefer to purchase their course materials another way. Holland said students can opt out of the program before the Aug. 30 deadline through several simple options.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the email, there is a link where you can go to opt out,\u201d she said. \u201cThey click on that link, and it will take them to the landing page on UTC\u2019s website. Within that landing page is a button that says \u2018opt out.\u2019 If the student is actually in the bookstore and they don\u2019t want to participate, we have QR codes that will be up during the first two weeks of class where they can scan, and it will take them there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Holland said that the benefits of MocsBooks may vary from one student to another. The goal of the MocsBooks Total Access Program is to save students as much money as possible while pursuing their education.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really want to save students money,\u201d Holland said. \u201cThat was our first goal. The second goal was to make everything as streamlined as possible in an orderly time and have everything ready by the first day of class.\u201d<\/p>\n
