Dr. Belinda Lee (Upward Bound) has received $359,824 from the US Dept. of Education for the project entitled, “UTC Upward Bound Program.”
Bryan Lane (WUTC) has received $140,314 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for the project entitled, “American Rescue Plan Act Stabilization Grant – Award Acceptance.”
Dr. Renee Murley (School of Education) has received $199,950 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “UTC Additional ESL Endorsement program.”
Drs. Christina Policastro and Karen McGuffee (Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies) have received $37,471 from the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for the project entitled, “Tommy Burks Victim Assistance Academy.”
Dr. Joanne Romagni (Vice Chancellor for Research) has received $793,861 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for the project entitled, “FY 20 Center for Excellence in Applied Computational Science & Engineering.”
Dr. Chris Smith (School of Nursing) has received $192,816 from the Erlanger Health System for the project entitled, “RN to BSN Gateway Program.”
The following UTC faculty and staff have attracted $27,412,594 emergency funds for COVID-19 relief:
Tyler Forrest (Business & financial affairs) has received $27,272,280 from the US Dept. of Education for the project entitled, “UTC Emergency Funds under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.”

Dr. Linda Frost (Honors College) has requested $7,500 from the South Arts for the project entitled, “Bo McGuire – SOCKS ON FIRE.”
Dr. Shewanee Howard-Baptiste (Health and Human Performance) has requested $78,000 from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for the project entitled, “Deploying high school Student Health Worker Training Programs to boast health education and literacy while increasing interest in public health jobs.”
Drs. Erkan Kaplanoglu and Ahad Nasab (Engineering Management and Technology) have requested $79,726 from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for the project entitled, “Design and Control of Tire Recycling Machine.”
Drs. Renee Murley and Sarah Sandefur (School of Education) have requested $62,175 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “UT Literacy, Evaluation, Assessment and Research Network (TN LEARN).”
Dr. Mina Sartipi (CUIP) has requested $80,000 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “FMRG: Eco: A Sustainable Manufacturing and Production Ecosystem for Carbon Fiber and Polymer Composites Targeting HBCUs (S-MAP Ecosystem).”
Drs. Mina Sartipi (CUIP), Yu Liang, and Dalei Wu (Computer Science and Engineering), in collaboration with Virginia Tech, have requested $600,000 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Collaborative Research: Robustness Analysis of Closed-Loop Deep Learning.”
Drs. Kidambi Sreenivas and James Newman (Mechanical Engineering) have requested $792,147 from the Air Force Office Scientific Research for the project entitled, “Heterogenous Computing for Multi-Institution, Multi-Scale, Multi-Physics Analysis of High-Speed Flows.”
Drs. Khalid Tantawi (Engineering Management and Technology), Michael Danquah (Civil and Chemical Engineering), and Christopher Silver (LEAD), in collaboration with Motlow State Community College (MSCC), have requested $223,270 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Preparing for the Next Pandemic with Science 4.0.”
