Twyler Boykin (Center for Community Career Education) has received $297,601 from the US Department of Education for the project entitled, “Upward Bound Math & Science.”
Dr. Ricki Dierenfeldt (Social, Cultural and Justice Studies) in collaboration with the Chattanooga Police Department has received $161,074 from the US Department of Justice for the project entitled, “Scenic City Crime Gun Intelligence Center.”
Dr. Lucien Ellington and Jeffrey Melnik (School of Education) have received $48,442 from the Freeman Foundation for the project entitled, “Freeman Foundation Teacher Professional Development Programs 2021-2022.”
Dr. Trevor Elliott (Mechanical Engineering) has received $542,220 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Control of Additively Manufactured Solid Rocket Fuel Grain Geometries and Combustion Analysis.”
Dr. Linda Frost (Honors College) has received $5,711 from South Arts for the project entitled, “Bo McGuire – SOCKS ON FIRE.”
Dr. Pamela Guess (School Psychology) has received $189,000 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “School Psychology Intern Program.”
Dr. Linda Hill (School of Nursing) has received $26,177 from the Health Resources and Services Administration for the project entitled, “2020 HRSA Nurse Anesthetist Traineeships.”
Dr. Hunter Huckabay, Elizabeth Eaves, Shamira Freeman, Keith Mayes, Michelle Oliver, Sarah Sandefur (Center for Community Career Education) have received $751,398 from the US Department of Education for the project entitled, “UTC GEAR UP Project.”
Drs. Lloydia Murillo, Renee Murley and Charlotte Ellington (School of Education) have received $42,400 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for the project entitled, “Each One Reach One.”
Dr. Ashley Persons (Sociology) has received $171,409 from the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (VIWAPA) for the project entitled, “Feeder 7E Underground Archaeological Monitoring Project in Cruz Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands.”
Drs. Donald Reising and Daniel Loveless (Electrical Engineering) have received $434,569 from a federal agency.
Drs. Amber Roache, Jenny Holcombe and Priscilla Simms-Roberson (School of Nursing) have received $557,892 from the Health Resources and Services Administration for the project entitled, “Clinical-Academic Network for Developing Leaders (CANDL).”
Drs. Mina Sartipi, Reinhold Mann (CUIP), Farah Kandah, Osama Osman, Daniel Wu (Computer Science and Engineering), Donald Reising (Electrical Engineering) have received $1,374,885 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “A Sandbox for Fostering Smart and Connected City Research & Development.”
Drs. Henry Spratt (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science) and David Levine (Physical Therapy) have requested and received $6,216 from Shoetizer, LLC for the project entitled, “Utilization of the “Shoetizer” to Kill Potential Pathogenic Bacteria on Shoe Soles.”
Drs. Takeo Suzuki (International Education) and Robert Dooley (Rollins College of Business), in collaboration with FHI 360 has received $225,768 from the U.S. Department of State for the project entitled, “2021 SUSI Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.”
Dr. William Watson (Center for Professional Education) has received $54,382 from the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs for the project entitled, “Southeastern Leadership Academy 2020-2021.”
Dr. Li Yang (National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense) has received $185,947 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “One Year Assignment as Program Director in the NSF Division of Graduate Education, Directorate for Education and Human Resources.”

Dr. Daniel Loveless (Electrical Engineering) in collaboration with Skywater Technology has requested $335,247 from the Department of Defense for the project entitled, “RTS and Radiation Effects Characterization of Skywater’s 90nm Bulk Technology.”
Dr. Jared Pienkos (Chemistry and Physics) has requested $100,000 from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement for the project entitled, “Modulating the Optical Properties of Iridium and Rhenium Complexes using N-oxide Formation.”
Drs. Donald Reising and Daniel Loveless (Electrical Engineering) has requested $74,732 from the Facebook Research for the project entitled, “Improved User Security Through In-Situ Device-to-Device Multi-Factor Authentication Using Enhanced Specific Emitter Identification.”
