Greetings, faculty!
Please see the list of announcements, funding opportunities, and resources below.
Announcements
- On August 14 from 1-2pm, NSF’s Division for Environmental Biology will be hosting a Virtual Office Hour entitled “Things I wish I learned earlier about NSF”. Program Officers will discuss what they learned as they transitioned from PI to NSF PO, proposal tips and tricks, and common misconceptions. Read more about the event and register here.
- Life Science TN is hosting a Beer & Biotech event at Axis Research & Technologies facility in Chattanooga on August 17 from 4-6pm. This event brings together life science professionals across academia and industry. Read more about the event and register here. The event is free for LST members and prospective members.
- On September 21-22, UTC will be hosting a UT-wide colloquium for research administration personnel. Please note that ORSP and ORI will be working intermittently during the event so our response times may be delayed.
Funding Opportunities
ORSP is accepting Notices of Intent for two limited submission programs:
- FY24 NEA Grants for Arts Projects – Read more about the program here. UTC is limited to 1 proposal per year. If you are interested in being considered for selection for the 2024 competition, you must submit an NOI via InfoReady by no later than Friday, September 8. Click here to review the requirements and submit an NOI.
- NSF AI Research Institutes – Institutes must advance foundational AI research, conduct use-inspired research, incorporate multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to workforce development. Focus themes are Astronomical Sciences (FY24), Discovery in Materials Research (FY25), and Strengthening AI (FY25). Read more about the program here. UTC is limited to 2 preliminary proposals (total) in response to this solicitation. If you are interested in being considered for selection, you must submit an NOI via InfoReady by no later than Friday, September 8. Click here to review the requirements and submit an NOI.
The NSF Division of Materials Research has released new guidelines for their two core solicitations. There is no deadline to apply to either solicitation; however, submissions between April 15 and June 15 are discouraged.
- Topical Materials Research Programs (TMRP) accepts proposals for basic research in the following areas: Biomaterials (BMAT), Ceramics (CER), Condensed Matter Physics (CMP), Electronic and Photonic Materials (EPM), Metals and Metallic Nanostructures (MMN), Polymers (POL), and Solid State and Materials Chemistry (SSMC). Review the full solicitation here for additional details.
- Condensed Matter and Materials Theory (CMMT) accepts proposals for theoretical and computational materials research in DMR’s areas of interest. Examples include novel theories for hard and soft materials and materials-related phenomena; associated analytical, computational, and data-centric techniques; and predictive materials-specific theory, simulation, and modeling. Review the full solicitation here for additional details.
Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Programs for Minors
UT Policy SA0575 outlines the policy and procedures for implementing programs involving minors, including outreach activities sponsored by grants and contracts. Any project personnel having direct contact with minors (including UTC students) must undergo a background check prior to engaging in program activities. Keep this policy in mind as you develop grant proposals and unsponsored programming hosted by your departmental unit. Learn more about how UTC implements this policy here.
