Greetings, faculty!
Please see the list of announcements, funding opportunities, and resources below.
Announcements
- This Thursday and Friday, September 21-22, UTC will be hosting a UT-wide colloquium for Research Administration personnel. Please note that ORSP and ORI will be largely unavailable during the event so our response times may be delayed.
- On Thursday, October 12, the UTC Research Institute will host a Brown Bag session on High Performance Computing Resources and On-Demand Resources. The event will be held in the UTC Library Room 435 from 12:30 – 2pm.
- Friday, October 22, 2023 will be the last day that the NSF fillable PDF format for the biosketch and current and pending support can be uploaded and submitted in research.gov. For proposals due October 23, 2023 or after, investigators must use SciENcv to prepare the biosketch and CPS forms. Having trouble getting set up in SciENcv? Help guides are available on ORSP’s webpage here. You can also schedule a consultation with a grant specialist here.
- Important note for NSF-funded PIs: NSF is piloting a new enforcement policy to increase the timeliness of performance reports. NSF award terms and conditions require PIs to submit annual project reports 90-days PRIOR to the end of the annual budget period. Reports are considered overdue if they are not approved by the cognizant NSF program officer by this date. Under the new enforcement policy pilot, funds will be temporarily withheld from PIs with reports that are 60 days or more overdue. The pilot currently only impacts a select number of projects (affected PIs have been notified), and the trial period runs through January 31, 2024. If NSF elects to implement the policy in full, however, this will impact all NSF-funded PIs.
Because the PI is solely responsible for the implementation of a sponsored project at UTC, ORSP urges all PIs (regardless of sponsor) to intentionally build reporting deadlines into their project schedules to ensure compliance with award terms. Please contact our Award Services team with any questions.
Funding Opportunities

Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Salaries on Sponsored Projects
Sponsored Projects Policy FI0207 lays out the policies and procedures for charging salaries to sponsored projects. Curious to know under what circumstances extra service pay on a sponsored project is allowable? It’s all in this policy! Additional guidance on extra service pay is available on ORSP’s webpage.
