Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Gifts vs Sponsored Projects
Gifts (including bequests) are monies or property given voluntarily, without expectation of return or compensation on the part of the donor. Sponsored projects, including grants and contracts, are monies or property awarded to the University with terms and conditions for the use of the funds/property. All sponsored projects must route through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Review the Determination Matrix for assistance in determining whether your funding is a grant or a gift.
