Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse

Did you know that reporting child abuse and child sexual abuse is required under Tennessee law?  Any person who either has knowledge of such abuse, or who suspects such abuse is occurring, is required to report it to authorities.

You may report abuse via one of the following avenues:

  1. Tennessee Dept. of Children’s Services at 1-877-54ABUSE (1-877-542-2873)
  2. The sheriff of the county where the child resides
  3. The chief law enforcement official of the city where the child resides
  4. A judge having juvenile jurisdiction over the child

Your identity is confidential under Tennessee law, but you may report anonymously. Failure to report is a misdemeanor. A malicious false accusation is a criminal felony.

If you would like more information about mandatory reporting, please visit the UTC Programs for Minors website. If you would like to review our policy on the protection of minors who visit our campus, please click on the links below.
