Spring Research and Arts Conference Presenter Deadline

UTC faculty, staff, and students are invited to present research/creative project during the 2026 UTC Spring Research and Arts Conference! The upcoming deadline to submit a project for presentation is 11 PM on February 22, 2026. Follow this LINK to review presenter instructions, and to submit the presenter submission form. Over the last couple of weeks, there have been two incidents where the free expression of student organizations was removed without authorization or vandalized. As a reminder to the campus community, these behaviors represent violations of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Student Code of Conduct and, as such, cannot be tolerated.

UTC strives to be a welcoming environment for all people. We seek to inspire, nurture, and empower scholarship, creativity, discovery in an environment that celebrates diversity and inclusion. To do this, we encourage the free exchange of ideas among all members of the University community. However, activities that lead to the destruction of property or the unauthorized removal of properly registered expression are not appropriate.

During this time of year, many college students feel increased stress and symptoms of depression. Thoughts of suicide may also occur and it is important to be aware of all of the resources available to help you when you are in need. If you are having thoughts about suicide, it is likely that you feel hopeless, alone, and beyond help.  It is really important to know that it all can get better and the pain can ease if you get help. If you give yourself a chance, and give it time, you can get to a place in your life and you will be able to figure out ways to cope with your problems.

If you’re feeling suicidal and are not sure if you can stay safe, please call 911, (423) 425-HELP (4357), or go to the emergency room at the nearest hospital in order to get help right away.

The Board of Directors for Delta Upsilon Fraternity has suspended the Chattanooga Chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity at UTC. This suspension is due to the severe debt the chapter has accrued to Delta Upsilon Fraternity. The suspension, effective immediately, is in accordance with Delta Upsilon’s policies and it means members of the Chattanooga Chapter may not function as a chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, nor may members represent themselves to be a chapter of Delta Upsilon, and any and all operations of the chapter shall cease immediately.

All undergraduate members of the Chattanooga Chapter are hereby placed on alumni status with Delta Upsilon.

The International Fraternity may consider re-establishment of the Chattanooga Chapter upon consideration of the following criteria:

• The chapter’s outstanding debt is paid.
• The current undergraduate students placed will not have any involvement with a newly established Chattanooga Colony or its activities until after their graduation or departure from the University;
• A nine person advisory board approved by the International Fraternity must be established;
• The alumni will provide financial assistance for the future expansion efforts.

There is no specific timeline for when the Chattanooga Chapter will be re-established. Once the terms listed above are met, conversations about re-establishment between the Office of the Dean of Students and the International Headquarters of Delta Upsilon Fraternity will begin.

These suspension terms are contingent on the former Chattanooga Chapter undergraduate members fully abiding by the suspension order and no underground chapter activities occur. Any violations of this suspension may result in a member being brought before the Board of Directors for expulsion. The chapter may appeal the suspension by following the International Fraternities bylaws. Members of the former Chattanooga chapter are still required to abide by the UTC Code of Conduct and violations of the Code of Conduct may result in individual conduct charges.

Due to the decision of the Delta Upsilon Board of Directors, the University Investigation into alleged Code of Conduct violations is no longer in progress.

Please be advised that if your fraternity or sorority hosts or co-sponsors an event on or off campus with Delta Upsilon or is found to be assisting in the violation of any of these sanctions while they are on suspension, your chapter will be held responsible for its actions as well as the former Chattanooga Chapter.

The Office of the Dean of Students is excited to announce that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will re-activate their Theta Rho Chapter on campus during the Spring 2017 semester. It is clear that the organization’s support structures, policies, and initiatives around our institution’s core fraternity and sorority community values align with the University’s Strategic Plan and the Mission Statement of the Division of Student Development. We are excited to see membership in our National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) organizations grow.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its founding more than 200,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The sorority currently has 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica and the Republic of Korea.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga currently recognizes 25 active fraternities and sororities, including six of the nine historically African American fraternities and sororities that make-up the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). All these Greek-lettered organizations strive to compliment the mission of the University by promoting academic excellence, civic engagement, sisterhood/brotherhood, social responsibility, and leadership development. The Office of the Dean of Students is excited about the interest in growing the campus community through the potential re-colonization of the Theta Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The Office of the Dean of Students has been in touch with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Southern Regional leadership regarding the re-colonization of the Theta Rho Chapter since November 2015 and most recently on April 3rd during the organization’s Tennessee State Cluster. Students interested in membership in Delta Sigma Theta should visit the Sorority’s website at www.deltasigmatheta.org. Interested students should browse the “Membership” tab at the top of the page for more information, including minimum qualifications and the organization’s zero tolerance hazing policy. Although conversations between the Office of the Dean of Students and the Regional Office of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. continue, no definitive answer regarding a fall 2016 re-colonization has been determined at this time. Student participants from the 2015 Gentlemen’s Institute

Through interactive large and small group sessions such as an intense workout session facilitated by UTC’s Campus Recreation, a high-ropes course, discussion of “garage” topics, wellness breaks, and a bonfire pinning ceremony, participants identified their personal core values for decision making; debated and applied concepts of leadership; shared personal experiences; and had conversations on the expectations of men on a college campus. Over 125 student participants and peer facilitators have completed this Institute since the initial one in September 2012.

This year’s participant application was open to all students who identified as males, not just first-year or second year students. The peer facilitator application was only open to upperclassmen, but previous attendance at the Gentlemen’s Leadership Institute was not required. The Office of the Dean of Students believes that these changes provided a more diverse range of age, background, campus involvement, experiences, perspectives, beliefs, and identities that helped create the dialogue and content of the weekend. Fifty-six students applied on OrgSync to be either a student participant or peer facilitator.

Congratulations to the below 18 student participants and eight peer facilitators who completed this year’s Institute. The Office of the Dean of Students would also like to thank staff members Bradley Bell, Daniel Grzesik, and Jared Wenger for making this program happen.

Veteran Bridge Flag Ceremony
Wednesday, November 11 at 10 am in the Sculpture Garden at Bluffview (Art District–North side of bridge)
The city of Chattanooga will continue its tradition of honoring our Veterans by raising American flags across Veterans Bridge in the name of those who have served–Last spring a flag was raised and has flown over Veterans Bridge honoring the Veteran Students of UTC–On Veterans Day, that flag will be lowered and presented to UTC Veteran Services to be retired at UTC. On this day, the city of Chattanooga will permanently raise 5 American flags in honor of the four Marines and one Sailor who lost their lives in our city on July 16. The flags will permanently fly over the bridge in their honor and plaques will be installed on each flag pole so their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Join us for this celebration.

Chancellor’s Veterans Day Luncheon – Honoring the Veterans of UTC

Women in the Military Appreciation Day
Thursday, November 12th in the Lupton Library Portico from 11am – 1pm
Meet some of the woman on our campus who served in our military and enjoy their presentation of the history of women in the military. We will have an all female color guard to present the national colors at 12 noon and the National Anthem will be performed by Dr.Gretchen Potts.

SVO SGT Stephens Scholarship Race
Saturday, November 14th at Finley Stadium, 8:30 race registration  9:00am Race start.
Your Student Veterans Org his hosting the 4th annual Sgt David “Alex” Stephens Memorial Race to benefit UTC student veterans. Sgt. Stephens is a 2002 UTC graduate, who made the ultimate sacrifice and was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan. This year it is a Cammo Run (camouflage clothing and face paint). Come out and support this noble cause. After the race, stay for the pre-game festivities

UTC Military Appreciation Day Football Game (Chattanooga vs. The Citadel)
Saturday, November 14th at Finley Stadium, 2pm kickoff
All Veterans will be admitted free, to include up to 8 free Gen. admission tickets for immediate family members who are in attendance–There will be a Veteran ticket booth outside the Pavilion near the box office to receive your free veteran GA tickets. This is the last home game for the MOCS as they host The Citadel. This game could be the conference championship game and the 3rd consecutive championship for our MOCS. Do not miss all the fun!
