Green Flex is a voluntary renewable energy program from the Tennessee Valley Authority and participating local power companies. Participants in the Green power program legally transfer the environmental rights of the energy produced from their renewable facilities to TVA, which are used to supply for customers purchasing renewable energy certificates through Green Flex. The product is sold in megawatt-hours (MWh) with a minimum purchase of 2,000 MWh/year. In 2019, UTC purchased 14,400 MWh of renewable energy through TVA’s Green Flex program which had an environmental impact equivalent to 29,830,430 miles not driven by the average passenger vehicle or 200,361 tree seedlings planted and allowed to grow 10 years! The ETF has voted to increase the percentage of green power used for campus electricity from 33% to 56%! This is a win for a more sustainable UTC campus; Go Mocs! More info to come.
