Our current website theme is five years old. Five years may not sound like much, but on the web, that is a pretty long time. User habits change. Mobile expectations change. Accessibility expectations change. And content editors are still expected to keep everything accurate, current and organized. Naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new design gives us a stronger starting point for modernizing the university\u2019s digital front door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why This Matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The website is often the first place prospective students, families, current students, faculty, staff and visitors go for information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A stronger website experience helps people find what they need faster, whether they are looking for a program, an office, a form, an event, admissions information or student support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new design is not just about appearance. It is about improving how the site works for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prospective students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty and staff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Content editors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recruitment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mobile users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing and communications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-term site maintenance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A website should not feel like a maze. It should feel like a front door. Ideally, one that opens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s Improving<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The approved design is only one part of the larger project. The bigger goal is to build a better, more accessible and more manageable website for years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planned improvements include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A fresh, more modern look and feel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new content workflow and content moderation system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A better menuing and navigation system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Responsible AI integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved accessibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger first impressions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clearer calls to action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better program discovery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger storytelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better mobile experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faster access to admissions information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved brand consistency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better support for marketing and recruitment campaigns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moving to Drupal 11<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also preparing for Drupal 11, which gives us a stronger foundation for the next phase of the website. Drupal describes Drupal 11 as supporting structured content, workflows and content governance, which lines up with the kind of long-term improvements we need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For editors and site managers, the practical benefits may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More modern platform support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better long-term maintenance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improved editor experience, especially with AI integration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stronger content governance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleaner development practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better performance opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessibility support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Readiness for future Drupal improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This does not mean every problem magically disappears. If only. But it does give us a better base to build from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How This Helps You!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Improved components, better workflows and clearer menus should make editing easier and more consistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means fewer confusing choices, fewer avoidable errors and clearer guardrails before content is published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The approved design is a major step, but the full project is bigger than a new look.
