The Spring semester 2015 is in full swing and great things are happening at UTC!
This past Thursday, January 29th, we celebrated the completion of our new library with a “Grand Opening.” Thank you to everyone who participated in planning and helping to make this amazing event a great success. A special thanks to our library staff who spent the December Holidays moving from Lupton to the new facility and then had to host so many people. Nearly 1000 UTC faculty, staff, students, alumni, and campus friends took time out of their busy lives for the occasion. As I walk through the new library, I feel even more proud to be a Moc. The new library has brought a sense of excitement to our campus!
I was among approximately 40 UTC faculty and staff members who participated in last week’s Tennessee Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence Summit at Tennessee State University. Leaders from public and private college and university campuses across the state gathered to discuss topics including how to combat sexual violence, implementation of the rules of the Violence Against Women Act, and primary prevention. UTC is committed to addressing these critical issues.
The University Planning and Resource Advisory Council will be holding weekly meetings throughout the month of February to discuss budget proposals and to discuss reports from the Technology Committee and the Organizational Appraisal Committee. In order to keep the campus involved and informed, there will be a Town Hall meeting on March 3, 2015 at 3:30 pm in the University Center Auditorium. Please attend and provide input. We welcome your participation.
The search for a Vice Chancellor for Research/Dean of the Graduate School is moving along well and the search committee has narrowed the list to eight semifinalists. Finalists will visit campus starting in late February and there will be campus open forums for all candidates. Additional information will be forthcoming through UTCInfo.
Coffee with the Chancellor was held yesterday in the library with University of Tennessee system President Dr. Joe DiPietro in attendance. I enjoy the opportunity to answer questions, get to know some of you better, and have informal discussions with our students, faculty and staff. The next coffee has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th (location to be determined.) Please consider attending.
