This week, our community experienced an unthinkable tragedy. We mourn the loss of five Woodmore Elementary School children who died in Monday’s tragic bus accident. It is difficult to imagine the pain of their families as they deal with the loss of five precious young lives. Our hearts and prayers are with those who mourn this senseless loss of life. We also pray for everyone involved in the accident – some of whom remain in the hospital fighting for survival.
As we struggle to make sense of what happened, we look for ways to help those who are suffering. The United Way of Chattanooga and the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga have established The Woodmore Fund. You can contribute online or you can make a check out to the Community Foundation with “Woodmore” in the memo line. Checks can be dropped off or mailed to the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga at 1270 Market Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402. All donations will be directed to local organizations providing assistance to the victims’ families.
You can also show support with a different kind of contribution. Blood Assurance has been providing blood for the bus accident victims, and now needs your help to replenish the supply as we head into the holidays – a time when blood donation is traditionally low. There is a serious need for O Negative blood and platelets. The closest donation center is the Blood Assurance main office, located between 3rd and 4th Streets across from McKenzie Arena. You can find other local donation centers and blood drives here or call 800-962-0628 to make an appointment.
