* Passed away in January, 2021
My husband and I had the pleasure of being Dr. Jane Harbaugh’s neighbor for over forty years. She will be deeply missed, she was always teaching.
I respected and admired Dr. Jane Harbaugh. She cared so deeply for UTC and set a perfect example for women in leadership.
I would like to recognize the giving nature of Mr. Jan Evans, Retired Professor of Engineering, who taught my son during his time in the MS Engineering Management program a few years ago. He truly cared about his students. He devoted many hours of volunteer work to Rotary. I am certain he gave to the community in many other ways unknown to me. I know he will be missed by many.
Teacher, “boss,” friend – I was fortunate to have known Fred Behringer, Richard Casavant, Tony D’Andrea, Marvin Ernst, “Doc” Gerschefski, Jane Harbaugh, Jim Lewis, Linda Fletcher and Floy Wang – some as a teacher, some as “boss,” and all of them as friends – miss them all!
Jan Evans was a wonderful man to work with. He and his wife were wonderful people. They will missed.
Dr. Knight was a mentor and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He will be missed!
Kyle Knight is missed by his colleagues in Chemistry and Physics. He leaves a legacy in the many students that he taught and collaborated with in research. I wish I could’ve known him longer.
On behalf of the City of Chattanooga, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the UTC community and the loved ones of each of these individuals. May their memory be a blessing.
I had the pleasure of working with Jan Evans in the College of Engineering and Computer Science for 5 years. He was a wonderful professor respected by his students. Sending condolences to his family and the university.
My family and I deeply miss my father, Marvin Ernst. He was very proud of his tenure at UTC. He always loved teaching and spending time with his students. Teaching was definitely one of the defining factors of his life! It would bring him peace knowing he helped have a place in others lives through teaching.
Your dad was very special to me. He never missed an opportunity to make those that he was in contact with feel they could do anything and he took time with them. I will never forget how instrumental he was in working with the Urban League during their trying time. Your mom and dad went to Paris and brought me back a souvenir which was a small block of perfumed soap. An example of their thoughtfulness.
