On behalf of Facilities, I would like to provide a quick update for the fall semester relating to construction activities on campus.
Brock Hall- There is significant construction activity surrounding Brock Hall which affects the south entrance (Chamberlain Pavilion Side) and the accessible ramp on the west side. The purpose of the project is to upgrade the electrical and heating/cooling services to the building. The upgrades will also improve reliability in both campus distribution systems. The suggested alternate route for an accessible path from Vine Street to Chamberlain field is to use the exterior elevator at Derthick Hall, as it is always available. Other routes, during regular business hours, are accessible using the elevators in Lupton Hall and the Library. In addition, the University Greenway can be always used.
Divine Nine Heritage Park- You will notice construction activity at the intersection of Vine Street and Terrell Owens Way. This project will create a new park for the National Pan-Hellenic Council Greek Garden monuments for the Divine Nine historically black college fraternities and sororities.
Douglas Street at Oak- This project is to repair a failed underground water line. The sidewalk on west side (Library side) of Douglas Street will be closed until the repairs are completed.
Oak Street at Cardiac Hill- This project is to repair a failed underground water line. Pedestrian paths in all directions will remain open but will be narrowed in this area and protected by construction fencing. Please watch for heavy equipment operating in this area.
Lot 23 (between Guerry & Cadek)- There will be construction activity in Lot 23 related to upgrades to the campus electrical distribution system. Most of the lot will remain open at all times but there will be brief periods of a few spots being offline while work is being performed. Work will be performed around delivery schedules for Crossroads as not to impact food service for campus.
Multiple Buildings Lighting Upgrades-A project is underway to upgrade inefficient lighting to LED in multiple buildings across campus. You may see activities in public areas during normal hours. Work areas will be properly cordoned off but please give workers as much room as possible when passing by. Non-public areas will be scheduled with occupants as to not disrupt normal activities.
Corner of Oak Street at Palmetto Street- This project will repair the retaining wall in front of Patten House. The sidewalks on the south and west sides of the Patten House will remain closed until the repairs are completed.
801 McCallie- This project will replace the awning on the McCallie avenue side. The sidewalk will be closed as needed to complete the repairs.
McKenzie Arena Football Athletic Training Facility-The sidewalk on the west side of Mable Street is closed in front of the McKenzie Arena. The project involves a building addition, renovation of some interior space and an improved entrance at Gate 1. The sidewalk will remain closed for the duration of the project.
As always, please refer to our online campus map for construction locations and updates throughout the semester.
