Dr. Stephan Davenport (Accounting), in collaboration with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Inc, has requested and received $2,500 from the Internal Revenue Service for the project entitled, “2021-22 IRS/Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Matching Grant Program.”
Dr. Stephan Davenport and Dr. Spencer Usrey (Accounting), in collaboration with the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Inc, have requested and received $10,000 from the Internal Revenue Service for the project entitled, “2022-2023 IRS/Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Matching Grant Program.”
Dr. Deborah McAllister (School of Education), in collaboration with Vanderbilt University, has received $35,555 from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for the project entitled, “Elementary and Middle Grades STEM.”
Dr. Christina Policastro (Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies) has received $36,117 from the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for the project entitled, “Tommy Burks Victim Assistance Academy 2023.”
Dr. Priscilla Simms-Roberson (School of Nursing) has received $4,000 from CVS Health for the project entitled, “2022-2023 CVS Health Foundation FNP/PA Scholarship.”

Dr. Michael Danquah (Civil and Chemical Engineering), Dr. Dalei Wu (Computer Science and Engineering), and Dr. Amir Alakaam (Health and Human Performance), in collaboration with the University of Otago, have requested $649,301 from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture for the project entitled, “DSFAS PARTNERSHIP: Computational and Data-Driven Pipeline for Molecular and Functional Discovery and Assessment of Indigenous Foods.”
Dr. Stephanie DeVries (Biology, Geology, and Environmental Science), in collaboration with WaterWays, has requested $2,770 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for the project entitled, “Stream and sediment collection and analysis for MyWaterWays.org.”
Dr. Lucien Ellington and Jeffrey Melnik (School of Education) have requested $88,436 from the Association for Asian Studies, Inc for the project entitled, “Education About Asia Journal Project 2023.”
Dr. Jennifer Hogg (Health & Human Performance), in collaboration with Emory University, has requested $767,966 from the National Institutes of Health for the project entitled, “Sex Specific and Adaptive Biofeedback for Transfer of Injury-Resistant Biomechanics to Virtual Reality Simulated Sport.”
Dr. Jennifer Lynberg (School of Education) has requested $60,571 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “Tennessee Governors School for Aspiring Teachers.”
Dr. Ziwei Ma (Mathematics), in collaboration with the University of Texas at El Paso, has requested $299,994 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “SCH: Rehabilitation Evaluation of Neurologic Motor Disorders using Wearable Sensors and Anomaly Detection of High Dimensional Time Series Models.”
Dr. Mohammad Mahtabi (Mechanical Engineering), in collaboration with Purdue University, has requested $321,785 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Actuation Fatigue and Crack Growth Behavior of Shape Memory Alloy.”
Dr. Elizabeth O’Brien (Counseling), in collaboration with Hamilton County Public Schools, has requested $349,616 from the U.S. Department of Education for the project entitled, “Mental Health Service Interns at Hamilton County Schools.”
Dr. Elizabeth O’Brien (Counseling) has requested $54,699 from the State of Tennessee for the project entitled, “School Psychology Model for TN Schools.”
Dr. Daniel Pack and Dr. Zachary Ruble (Electrical Engineering), in collaboration with Shared Spectrum Company, have requested $578,271 from the Information Warfare Research Project Consortium for the project entitled, “Project Overmatch Mission Autonomy Proving Grounds.”
Dr. Brooke Persons (Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies) has requested $42,047 from Magens Bay Authority for the project entitled, “Phase II Archaeological Testing and Evaluation of MBA-Site 1 at Magens Bay, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.”
Dr. Donald Reising and Dr. Mohamed Fadul (Electrical Engineering), in collaboration with Riverside Research, have requested $244,637 from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency for the project entitled, “Collaborative Electrical Engineering Research.”
Dr. Mina Sartipi (CUIP), Dr. Weidong Wu, and Dr. Ignatius Fomunung (Civil and Chemical Engineering), in collaboration with the Nashville Department of Transportation, have requested $350,750 from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the project entitled, “Leveraging Advanced Data to Deliver Multimodal Safety.”
Dr. Yunye Shi (Mechanical Engineering) has requested $196,995 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “ERI: Characterizing and improving algae-derived biofuel droplet burning.”
Dr. Serkan Varol (Engineering Management and Technology), Dr. Michael Danquah (Civil and Chemical Engineering), Dr. Marissa McElrone, and Dr. Dawn Ford (Health and Human Performance) have requested $377,055 from the National Institutes of Health for the project entitled, “Exploring black adults’ willingness to vaccinate themselves and their children in the southeastern U.S.; a mixed method approach.”
