The following UTC Faculty and Staff have attracted $575,341 in external grant and contract awards:
Dr. Stephanie DeVries (Biology, Geology & Environmental Science), in collaboration with WaterWays, has received $2,770 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for the project entitled, “Stream and sediment collection and analysis for MyWaterWays.org.”
Dr. Jennifer Lynberg (School of Education) has received $12,000 from Chattanooga 2.0 for the project entitled, “Early Childhood Pilot Strategies Graduate Assistantship.”
Dr. Jennifer Lynberg (School of Education) has received $60,571 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “Tennessee Governors School Teacher Prep.”
Dr. Christine Smith, Dr. Yasmine Key (University Health Services), Dr. Dawn Ford (Employee Wellness), and Laure Pou (Human Resources), in collaboration with the TN Department of Health, have received $500,000 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the project entitled, “Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases.”

Dr. Jose Barbosa (Biology, Geology & Environmental Science), Dr. Sandra Affare, Dr. Erkan Kaplanoglu (Engineering Management & Technology), and Dr. Nagwan Zahry (Communication) have requested $627,427 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture for the project entitled, “Community-Driven Approach to Food Desert Elimination with Stem-Education & Agricultural Projects.”
Dr. Murat Barisik and Dr. Reetesh Ranjan (Mechanical Engineering) have requested $749,996 from the DOE Office of Science for the project entitled, “First principles multiphase modeling of mesoscale gas transport in porous reactive systems.”
Dr. Stephanie DeVries and Dr. Ashley Manning-Berg (Biology, Geology & Environmental Science) have requested $25,999 from the TN Water Research Center for the project entitled, “Optimizing sampling and processing techniques for improved microplastic source determination in Tennessee waterways.”
Dr. Keenan Dungey, Dr. Jared Pienkos, Dr. Benjamin Stein, and Dr. Wang Yong Yang (Chemistry & Physics), have requested $13,500 from the American Chemical Society for the project entitled, “University of Tennessee at Chattanooga site for the American Chemical Society Project SEED.”
Dr. Dawn Ford (Health & Human Performance), Charlie Mix, and Nyssa Hunt (IGTLab), in collaboration with the TN Department of Environment and Conservation, have requested $138,212 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the project entitled, “Holistic Healthy Home Prescription.”
John Freeze and Rebecca Hurst (Center for Professional Education) have requested $103,779 from the TN Office of Criminal Justice Programs for the project entitled, “UT Law Enforcement Innovation Center.”
Dr. Marcus Mauldin (Political Science & Public Service) has requested $39,108 from the City of Chattanooga for the project entitled, “Chattanooga Social Equity Study Proposal.”
Dr. Amber Roache (School of Nursing) has requested $2,553,525 from the Health Resources and Services Administration for the project entitled, “Clinical-Academic Partnerships: Breaking Down Barriers to Care.”
Dr. Yingfeng Wang and Dr. Yu Liang (Computer Science & Engineering) have requested $2,339,393 from the U.S. Department of Energy for the project entitled, “Quantifying and Reducing the Uncertainties in Machine Learning-Enhanced Multiphysics Simulations.”
