GIS Day Event and Workshop_flyer
Subject: GIS Day Event and Workshop – with Special Guest Sunny Fleming, Esri Environment Lead
Message: Please join us for GIS Day! GIS Day provides an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society.
UTC’s Interdisciplinary Geospatial Technologies Lab (IGTLab) is excited to announce a guest speaker for GIS Day, Sunny Fleming. Sunny is a UTC alum, holding a BS in Biology with a focus on botany and ecology. She is a leader in the GIS world and serves Esri’s industry lead for the domains of environment, conservation, and natural resources. Throughout her career, she has applied GIS concepts and technology to environmental policy, conservation, and natural resources, from monitoring species in the field to helping state parks manage assets and assess their economic impacts. She continues to pursue her passion for the environment by helping industry leaders streamline and improve their work with GIS technology, whether in the field or in the office, and whether setting policy or managing wildlife and resources.
Also, hear from UTC IGTLab staff and faculty on how you can utilize GIS resources available to students, faculty, and staff in your research, teaching, and work.
This event is open to all UTC students, faculty, staff, and the public interested in GIS.

What is GIS you ask? A geographic information system (GIS) is a system that creates, manages, analyzes, and maps all types of data. GIS connects data to a map, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context. The benefits include improved communication and efficiency as well as better management and decision making.
Sincerely,
Charlie Mix, GIS Director & Nyssa Hunt, Assistant GIS Director
