The following UTC faculty and staff have attracted $2,678,831 in external grant and contract awards:
Dr. Christina Policastro and Dr. Karen McGuffee (Social, Cultural and Justice Studies) have received $36,760 from the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence for the project entitled, “2024 Senator Tommy Burks Victim Assistance Academy.”
Dr. Max Teaford (Psychology) in collaboration with Ohio State University has received $6,853 from the Department of Defense for the project entitled, “Identifying Adverse Modes via Human-Machine Cybernetic Modeling.”
Dr. Kristina Wick, Dr. Latisha Toney, Dr. Sarah Treat (School of Nursing), Dr. Shewanee Howard-Baptiste, Dr. Amir Alakaam (Health and Human Performance), Dr. Cathy Scott (Social Work), and Dr. Erin Melhorn (Occupational Therapy), have received $2,635,200 from the Tennessee Department of Health for the project entitled “Rural Health and Older Adult Interprofessional Mobile Health and Workforce Recruitment Program.”

Dr. Francesca Leasi (Biology, Geology and Environmental Science) in collaboration with Florida International University has requested $696,680 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “The Evolution of Salinity Tolerance in Monogonont Rotifers.”
Dr. Tian Li (Chemistry and Physics) in collaboration with UTK has requested $131,584 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Building Better Quantum: Hybrid Optimization for Generator Scheduling.”
Dr. Hong Qin (Computer science and Engineering), Dr. Gregory Heath (Health and Human Performance), Dr. Jin Wang, Dr Xiunan Wang (Mathematics), Dr. Nagwan Zahry (Communications), and Dr. Azad Hossain (Biology, Geology and Environmental Science) have requested $18,000,000 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “PIPP Phase II: Theme 2: Center for socially acceptable and fair genomic epidemiology with AI for pandemic prediction and prevention – SAFE-AI.”
Dr. Jose Barbosa (Biology, Geology and Environmental Science), Dr. Sandra Affare, Dr. Erkan Kaplanoglu (Engineering Management and Technology), Dr. Stephanie Philipp (School of Education), and Dr. Nagwan Zahry (Communications) have requested $687,516 from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture for the project entitled, “Community-Driven Approach to Food Desert Elimination With Stem-Education & Agricultural Projects.”
