Dr. Charlene Schmidt (Health & Human Performance) has received $35,852 from Welcome Home of Chattanooga for the project entitled, “Developing a Nutrition Program for Welcome Home Chattanooga.”
Dr. Amir Alakaam (Health & Human Performance) has received $49,632 from the City of Chattanooga for the project entitled, “Nutrition Education Program.”
Dr. Donald Reising (Electrical Engineering) and Dr. Mohamed Fadul have received $22,341 from a governmental entity for a research project.
Dr. Dalei Wu, Dr. Roland Howell, Dr. Yu Liang and Dr. Yukun Yuan (Computer Science and Engineering), have received $7,326 from the Volkswagen Group of America for the project entitled, “Gateway Programming with CAPL/Vector/CANalyzer Tool.”

Dr. Betsy Myers (Physical Therapy) has requested $4,040 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “OptiHealth Program.”
Dr. Erin Melhorn, Dr. Jessica Hackathorne (Occupational Therapy), Dr. Stephanie Eton and Dr. Carolyn Padalino (Physical Therapy) have requested $11,767 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Empowering Independence: Establishing an Innovative Aging in Place Lab for the Occupational and Physical Therapy programs at UTC.”
Jamie Booth (Center for Global Education) and Dr. Nikolasa Tejero (Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences) have requested $24,506 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “A&SRC Explorers: Experience Mexican Culture.”
Dr. Keenan Dungey (Chemistry and Physics), and Dr. Stephanie Philipp (School of Education) have requested $21,660 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Peer Led Team Learning in a Gateway College Science Course.”
Dr. Luis Sanchez Diaz (Chemistry and Physics) has requested $25,000 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Building a patch clamp systems to study biomolecular memristors consisting of Ion Channel-doped Lipid Membranes.”
Dr. Megan Hartline (English) has requested $23,367 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Parental Leave Policies as Structures of Inequality.”
Nora Ketron and Katie Gohn (Library) have requested $4,687 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “UTC Library Whole Student Wellness Collection.”
Dr. Serkan Varol, Dr. Gokhan Erdemir, and Dr. Erkan Kaplanoglu (Engineering Management and Technology) have requested $15,888 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Promoting Diversity and Inclusion in Robotics.”
Dr. Shellie Acocello (Health & Human Performance) has requested $24,583 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “Advancing Simulation Fidelity in Emergency Response.”
Graduate Student, Julia Jones, mentored by Dr. Timothy Gaudin (Biology, Geology and Environmental Science) has requested $7,663 from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists for the project entitled, “A Phylogenetic and Taxonomic Analysis of Parocnus Serus, an Extinct Holocene Sloth from Haiti.”
Dr. Keenan Dungey, Dr. Jared Pienkos, Dr. Luis Sanchez Diaz, and Dr. Wang Yong Yang (Chemistry and Physics) have requested $13,120 from the American Chemical Society for the project entitled, “2024 ACS Project SEED at UTC.”
Dr. Jennifer Hogg (Health & Human Performance), in collaboration with Emory University has requested $95,668 from the National Institutes of Health for the project entitled, “Optimization of quadriceps function in a choice reaction time paradigm using motivational biofeedback in patients following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.”
Dr. Rachel Waldrop (Art) has requested $50,000 from the Teiger Foundation for the project entitled, “Erasure: Victor Contreras, Public Memory, and The Hands of God.”
Dr. Gokhan Erdemir, Dr. Erkan Kaplanoglu, Dr. Serkan Varol, Dr. Khalid Tantawi, Dr. Seong Dae Kim (Engineering Management and Technology), Dr. Raga Ahmed (Electrical Engineering), Dr. Mengjun Xie, and Dr. Yu Liang (Computer Science and Engineering) have requested $587,580 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Mobile Robotics and Data Analytics for Smart Transportation.”
Dr. Kristen Black (Psychology), in collaboration with Auburn University has requested $160,740 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Conceptualizing, Operationalizing, and Examining the Effect of Recovery Climate.”
Dr. Loren Hayes, Dr. Azad Hossain (Biology, Geology and Environmental Science), Dr. Krysta Murillo (School of Education), and Dr. Jin Wang (Mathematics) have requested $749,999 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “Integrating biological, geospatial, and math modeling to understand how a changing climate impacts animal social systems.”
Dr. Mina Sartipi, Austin Harris, and Dr. Tianya Zhang (UTC Research Institute) in collaboration with a cadre of institutions led by Vanderbilt University have requested $357,896 from the Vanderbilt University for the project entitled, “PATH-TN: Partnership for AI-driven Multimodal Transportation Services Integration in Tennessee Cities.”
