Dear Campus Community:
UTC’s Interdisciplinary Geospatial Technology Lab (IGTLab) is offering a free GIS workshop for the UTC campus community! What is GIS?
A geographic information system (GIS) is a system that creates, manages, analyzes, and maps all types of data. GIS connects data to a map, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context. The benefits include improved communication and efficiency as well as better management and decision making. -Esri
About the Workshop:
Attendees will learn how to access free GIS resources available to campus, how to implement GIS in the classroom, research, work activities and connect and learn about other available services offered by the IGTLab. This workshop is open to all user skill levels. Specifically, this 2-hour workshop will enable you to:
- Learn what GIS is and how you can apply it to your work
- Learn about free GIS resources available to the campus community – i.e. software licenses, spatial data science, data collection and processing, data hosting, and visualizations
- Get hands on with GIS, by working through an introductory overview course of GIS focused on ArcGIS Online
- Spend time with IGTLab staff and learn about the services that IGTlab provides
Workshop date: May 30, 2024
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
