Come celebrate GIS day on Wednesday, Nov. 20, with UTC’s Interdisciplinary Geospatial Technologies Lab!
This November, UTC’s IGTLab will join hundreds of organizations worldwide in hosting gatherings that will celebrate the impactful work of GIS professionals and serve to ignite the imagination of the future innovators who will further advance global progress using GIS.
To celebrate GIS Day, IGTlab will offer a free workshop on cartography and welcome two guest speakers that are leaders in remote sensing and imagery analysis. Dr. Azad Hossain, Associate Professor from UTC’s Biology, Environmental Science, and Geology department will speak about his NASA funded research using remote sensing of water quality in the Tennessee River. And Paul Dudley, Location Intelligence Analyst with the State of Tennessee will speak about his work services that his office provides.
About the Cartography Workshop:
Cartography is often described as both the art and science of map making. While there are few rules in cartography, there are best practices to follow and certain pitfalls to avoid. In this workshop, attendees will learn about the different types of maps, data classifications, visual hierarchy, and how to create effective maps to tell stories with data. Attendees will get hands on practice making maps for print and web. Basic experience with GIS or data science is encouraged but not required. This workshop is intended for anyone interested in cartography and maps. Register below, space is limited!
