Abstract:
The thesis currently titled “Lucille” by Graicen Hixson contains roughly fifty pages of prose about the titular character’s world-altering actions after the murder of her wife. The multi-chapter excerpts from this novel are non-chronological. The focus for these thesis chapters is worldbuilding and character. The thesis also includes approximately ten pages of a craft paper that analyzes worldbuilding and character development in three fiction novels using Jeff VanderMeer’s concepts from Wonderbook: The Illustrative Guide to Creating Imaginative Fiction. Specifically, I analyzed how setting interacts with character, perspective, point-of-view, and worldbuilding on the sentence level.
