A message from UTC Safety and Risk Management:
Disasters don’t wait. Prepare now. The power is out, there has been an earthquake, a tornado just hit town, your house fell down. You are okay but don’t even have a toothbrush! What now?
If you have a kit, you will be fine until more help arrives.
Build a kit with these items
- Food and water
- Any medications
- Pet supplies
- First aid kit
- Flashlight
- PHONE CHARGER
Be in the know
UTC-ALERT will provide information for you if you are on campus. If you are off campus, pay attention to information from your local emergency management agencies.
Communicate! Communicate!
During an emergency, cell phone service may be disrupted. Text messages may be delayed but will eventually get through. If you have access to the web, you can use the Safe Mocs app to access the UT Reconnect site. This allows you to let friends and family know you are safe.
Where did everybody go?
Take a selfie with your family, your friends and even your pets—and include a printed copy in your emergency kit. If you get separated during a disaster, it might help you get reunited. #BeReady #PetPreparedness.
Be generous
Emergency kits make great Christmas presents, especially for that hard-to-buy for person who, unlike you, isn’t ready for a disaster. And if your roommates have a kit, they won’t be mooching your snacks.
