Last week there was an attempt to break into one of the university-owned vehicles while it was parked on campus. The vehicle was locked and the theft was prevented.
If you use a university vehicle (or rental vehicle used for university business), please remember to secure the vehicle whenever you step away. This includes removing the keys from the ignition, securing any fuel cards in a safe location, keeping tools, phones, computers or other belongings out of sight, rolling up all windows and locking the doors. Do not leave your vehicle running unattended even for a few moments.
These safety tips can also be applied to your personal vehicles.
Alternative vehicles can be stolen as well. We encourage departments to keep them locked or chained if they are not parked in a secure location.
Please reach out to Transportation Services if you have any questions or need further assistance.
