Welcome back. I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break and is ready for the spring semester. Ready or not, classes start on Monday, January 7th.
We are now a smoke-free campus. Cigarettes, cigars, pipes and vaping are banned for all faculty, students, staff and visitors. Smoking is allowed on public property surrounding campus. For more information on the smoke-free policy, go to https://www.utc.edu/smoke-free-utc/index.php.
Welcome to our new head football coach, Rusty Wright, who is an alum who played football at UTC and then coached here as an assistant. We are excited about his returning to UTC to lead our football program.
The search for our new Provost continues to move forward. We have a strong pool of candidates who will be on campus for interviews in early March. We are anticipating that the new Provost will start on July 1.
The first meeting of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Advisory Board is set for Monday, January 7th. The Board was established by the UT Focus Act and has a total of seven members: five community members appointed by the Governor, one faculty member selected by the UTC Faculty Senate, and one student who will be appointed by the Board. Our Board is comprised of Fred Decosimo, former UC Foundation Board Chair, and four UTC alumni: Muecke Barker, Serina Desai, Carole Hoffman and Scott LeRoy. Gretchen Potts, UC Foundation Professor of Chemistry, was selected as the faculty representative.
