Chancellor’s Update
What a wonderful fall! The leaves are changing colors and the morning chill is refreshing. The campus looks beautiful thanks to our incredible grounds crew. It is such a pleasure to walk across campus and enjoy the change of season.
Mocs Give Day was a great day for our students, our campus and the Division of Advancement. The final numbers—$1,209,301 raised from 1,475 donors over 24 hours—were astounding, and it was heartwarming to hear that those totals included donations from 105 current students and 328 staff and faculty. Thank you to everyone who participated and congratulations to our advancement team for planning this event!
This past week we interviewed three finalists for Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration. Thank you to those who participated in the interviews and have provided feedback. We hope to close out the search before November 15.
The UTC Advisory Board recently voted to move the UTC Campus Master Plan forward to the UT Board of Trustees for consideration. The Master Plan creates a vision for the future that aligns with the strategic direction of the University, both on campus and with community partners.
We had a great turnout for yesterday’s Coffee with the Chancellor at the Military Science Building. Thanks to Capt. Stuart Allgood and the Military Science staff for hosting the event. And thank you to those who attended! The next Coffee with the Chancellor is scheduled for November 21 at 8:30 a.m. in the newly renovated Hunter Hall.
The Rocket Mocs are making headlines again! For the fifth straight year, a team of UTC mechanical engineering students led by UC Foundation Associate Professor Trevor Elliott has been accepted into a NASA-sponsored national rocket competition. The nine-month-long challenge will culminate with an on-site launch event near NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, in April. Go Rocket Mocs!
Last week, the UTC Theatre Co.’s production of “Feathers and Teeth” included four UTC students—freshman Karlee Jamieson (Murfreesboro, Tennessee), sophomore Katie Forrester (Dalton, Georgia), junior Alexander Blaine Evans (Fairview, Tennessee) and senior Drew-Michael Roedel (Germantown, Tennessee). It was so much fun for those of us in the audience. Well done to the cast, crew, faculty, and staff!
Tomorrow night (October 21), the Athletics Department will introduce the newest members of its Hall of Fame during the Class of 2022 induction ceremony/banquet at the University Center. Coach Gavin McKinney’s UTC soccer team needs one more victory to secure the program’s first Southern Conference title. The Mocs are 5-0-2 in league play and have important road matches tomorrow (October 21) at Wofford and Sunday (October 23) at Furman. Go Mocs!
The Mocs football team, ranked 8th in this week’s FCS Coaches Poll, is 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference action heading into their Saturday (October 22) contest against Mercer. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Finley Stadium. Come on out and cheer on our Mocs!
Congratulations to senior Dorota Zalewska on being selected the Southern Conference Golfer of the Week three times in a four-week span. What a fantastic achievement!
Faculty and staff, Mocs Games: Halloween Edition will take place on Chamberlain Field from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on October 31. As part of the festivities, we are excited to collaborate with the UTC Library’s annual Halloween costume contest—so come dressed in your favorite costume or come as you are. I hope you can join us for lunch and games.
Make sure to vote! Tennessee’s General Election is November 8, and early in-person voting is taking place through November 3. We all need to ensure our voices are heard.
